Numerals 0-10 or Multiplying? Halloween Color by Number Sets to Match

Match the sheet to the skill: Teachers Pay Teachers' Numbers 0-10 set for a child learning numerals, its 1-20 set for counting at a glance, and Superstar Worksheets' math pages for sums up to multiplication. Four of the six sets compared here are free.

For a child still learning to name numerals, start with the Halloween color by number sheets in the Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) Numbers 0-10 set. Its maker lists it for PreK to 1st grade. A child ready to see amounts at a glance moves up to TPT’s Numbers 1-20 set, and a child already doing sums gets Superstar Worksheets’ free math pages. Pick by the skill, not the cutest picture, and you narrow six sets to one before you print a single page.

Each Sheet Practices One Skill, So Match the Skill First

The sets compared here share one routine. Your child reads a symbol in the key, finds it in the picture and colors that space. Only the symbol changes: a numeral, a domino, a finger picture, a sum or a sight word.

That symbol sets the skill. A numeral sheet practices number recognition. A domino sheet practices subitizing, which means seeing how many things are in a group without counting them. Sum sheets practice math facts, and word sheets practice reading.

Keep it a game. NAEYC (the National Association for the Education of Young Children) states that play is essential for all children from birth through age 8. If a sheet turns into a struggle, drop down one level.

How we evaluated: each row comes from the maker’s own page. Superstar Worksheets is one set, split into three rows by page type, so the table covers six sets. Grades are the maker’s; “Not stated” means the page gives none. Prices were checked in October 2026.

Math Sheets Climb From Numerals 0-10 to Multiplication

The order below is this page’s own. It is built from what each maker says its sheet practices; no maker publishes it as a sequence.

  1. Numerals 0-10. TPT’s 0-10 set is the narrowest start, with 8 pages. Weak spot: it costs $3.00. Fix: try Superstar’s free 1-6 page first.
  2. Numerals to 20, free. Superstar’s number pages run 1-6, 7-13 and 14-20. Your child moves up one range at a time. Weak spot: the jump into two-digit numbers. Fix: if a page stalls, repeat the range below.
  3. Counting at a glance. TPT’s 1-20 set splits numbers into groups of 5 or 7 per page. Five of its 12 pages build subitizing: 3 with dominoes and 2 with finger pictures. Weak spot: it’s the only set here that does this, and it’s paid. Fix: its other 7 pages practice numerals and number words to 20, so the set keeps working once subitizing clicks.
  4. Addition. Superstar calls its addition page “perfect for Kindergarten and first graders.” Weak spot: your child now has to solve a sum before coloring. Fix: if numerals still trip them up, go back to step 1 or 2.
  5. Subtraction and multiplication. Superstar’s set covers addition, subtraction, multiplication, letter recognition and sight words. Weak spot: a coloring sheet gives practice, not teaching. Fix: introduce the facts before handing over the sheet.

Verdict: Start Free, Then Pay for Counting at a Glance

Verdict: Superstar Worksheets’ free pages cover numerals to 20, sums and sight words, so most families can start there. The TPT sets suit a child who needs a narrow 0-10 start or dot-and-finger counting.

The flaw, with its fix: Superstar’s blurbs don’t always match its labels. Its page calls the 7-13 sheet a “color by subtraction worksheet” and says the 14-20 sheet “features numbers 15-20.” Fix: open each PDF and check the key before you print.

Strengths: the art-first sets add 6 + 24 = 30 free Halloween designs from The Best Ideas for Kids and Monday Mandala, plus the free PDFs from Coloring Bunny.

If you pay, compare per page: $3.00 ÷ 8 pages = about 38¢ a page for Numbers 0-10. $2.19 ÷ 12 pages = about 18¢ a page for Numbers 1-20, about half as much. For subitizing, only 5 of those 12 pages count: $2.19 ÷ 5 = about 44¢ a page, more than the 0-10 set’s 38¢. If your child already knows numerals to 10, buy the 1-20 set anyway, because it goes on to 20.

Who should skip: if your child already does simple sums, skip both TPT sets and go straight to Superstar’s math pages. If your child just wants a Halloween picture, skip the math sets and print from Monday Mandala’s 24 designs.

Activity Card: Materials, Time and Mess

  • Age: the maker’s grade where the table gives one; otherwise 5-7 (suggested)
  • Prep: none for the 6 designs from The Best Ideas for Kids, which its maker describes as no-prep. TPT sells its 0-10 set as “no prep” and its 1-20 set as “Print & go”. The other makers don’t state prep.
  • Time: 20-30 minutes per sheet (suggested)
  • Mess: low with crayons or pencil crayons (suggested)
  • Skill it builds: the one in the table’s skill column

Materials:

Steps:

  1. Use the table to pick a sheet for the skill your child is practicing.
  2. Print one copy per child, plus a spare.
  3. Read the key together, pointing at each number and its color.
  4. Have your child color all the spaces for one number before starting the next.
  5. Check the finished picture against the key together.

If it goes wrong: if your child can’t read the color words yet, the 6-design set from The Best Ideas for Kids suggests filling in the key’s colors for them first. That way they match colors instead of reading words.

Monday Mandala’s PDFs are US Letter size, and the maker says they also fit A4. Coloring Bunny’s free PDFs print on both Letter and A4.

If your printer cuts off part of the outline, print at 90% scale, as The Best Ideas for Kids suggests. The picture shrinks a little, which pulls it in from the edge of the page.

Laminate a Favorite Page to Reuse It or Hang It

Laminate one of the 6 designs from The Best Ideas for Kids and color it with washable paint, as its maker suggests, so the page can be wiped off and colored again. A finished paper page can also go straight onto a window or door as part of your Halloween decorations.

Supervision and Supply Notes Start With the Labels

The labels worth reading are on the markers and paints. Before a session, run the 8-step kid-safe crafts supply-label checklist, and run it again before washable paint goes on a laminated page.

Next step: when the sheets are done, try one of the easy Halloween crafts for kids, sorted by materials and mess.
